Cleaning a PermaFlex surface is quite easy. You can use most any common detergent, dish soap, TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate). Never use chlorine/bleach or any product containing chlorine/bleach, as they can be harmful to PermaFlex. Quaternary Disinfectant Cleaner can be used to disinfect or sanitize your PermaFlex floor.
- Make sure the area has been thoroughly washed (TSP/water or Dawn dish soap/water), rinsed, and dried. Thoroughly scrub the area using a rags with Xylene or Acetone.
- Apply 1 coat of LRB (Liquid Rubber Base) 240 sq’ per gal over top of the existing Sani-Tred surface.
- If any areas require patching or profiling, mix 2-parts LRB (Liquid Rubber Base) with 1-part TAV (Thickening Activator). This will create a thickened mixture which is used for any patching or profiling of joints, seams, cracks, holes, or rough areas. Wall/floor junctions require a 1” bead of LRB/TAV mixture. Most cracks use a 3/4" bead.
- Apply topcoat of PermaFlex (240 sq’ per gal).
We recommend you thin Sani-Tred products 15 to 25% with Xylene, or acetone.
Note: Xylene is prohibited in certain areas, check local laws.
Mix 2 parts LRB to 1 part TAV with a paddle on a drill until it has the consistency of heavy cake frosting or peanut butter. Properly mixed LRB/TAV has the consistency of silicone caulk and can be applied using a cement bag to a 1″ diameter caulk bead where the wall meets the floor and 3/4″ diameter caulk bead on most cracks. For a runnier patching liquid, use less TAV in the mixture.
Products can be applied at any temperature as long as the substrate is properly prepared. Do not apply over top of frost or ice. Sani-Tred products cure in 4 hours or less at 70 degrees Fahrenheit with normal humidity, longer to cure in colder temperatures or environments with lower humidity and 24 hours or longer in below freezing temperatures.
We recommend removing any previous applied products before applying PermaFlex to ensure the best possible adhesion. Understand that surface preparation is 75% responsible for waterproofing success of a first time application. If you want a completely waterproof basement, it’s best to remove all paint and previous coatings so you can apply PermaFlex directly to the concrete. By starting with completely bare, clean, and dry concrete free of any paint, coatings, or crumbling debris, Sani-Tred can fully adhere to the surface, penetrate deep into the pores, and harden, while remaining flexible, to fully waterproof your concrete.
LRB (Liquid Rubber Base) is a self-leveling liquid rubber that will cure throughout its entire volume at any thickness in one or multiple applications. TAV (Thickening Activator) is mixed with the LRB at a 2:1 ratio (2 parts LRB to 1 part TAV) to create a thickened mixture similar in viscosity as silicone caulk. LRB/TAV mixture is used to patch and profile joints, seams, cracks, holes and rough areas whether horizontal, vertical or inverted.
Note: TAV only works to thicken & activate LRB (Liquid Rubber Base) and has no function outside of the Sani-Tred system.
All Sani-Tred products have a shelf life of 12 months in unopened containers.
Sani-Tred is a revolutionary system that adheres to most surfaces, not just concrete. Sani-Tred will permanently adhere to concrete, block, brick, stone & mortar, fiberglass, steel, aluminum, wood, plywood and most common building materials.
Sani-Tred can waterproof virtually any surface, even block cement walls. Block walls need 3 coats of PermaFlex. Apply two ‘prime coats’ of PermaFlex before you start patching then apply the third coat.
PermaFlex comes in 4 colors: Dark Tan, Gray, Black, and Off White. However, one of the advantages of PermaFlex is it can be painted over once it’s dried. Apply the Sani-Tred system, let it cure at least overnight and then you can paint over it to match your room’s décor. It is recommended to at least apply a test spot with the paint you intend to use.
Sani-Tred is non-toxic, non-hazardous, low VOC (volatile organic compounds), and low-odor, which makes it a safe, durable, and reliable flooring material for zoos, kennels, nature preserves, and other animal habitats.
